Ramsay Swaps Restaurants for Running Shoes to Raise Funds for UKSCF

Feb 28th, 2013

Gordon RamsayFamous for his ‘F-word’, acclaimed chef, Gordon Ramsay is turning his focus from food to fundraising by running the LA Marathon in March to raise awareness and funds for the UK Stem Cell Foundation.

Gordon chose to support the Foundation through his connection to UKSCF supporter, Henry Fraser. Henry attended the same school as Gordon’s son and became paralysed after a tragic accident. Gordon soon came to hear of Henry and was very keen to help raise funds not only to help him, but to help find a cure for spinal cord damage.

Through Henry, he came to hear of a promising stem cell research project that is being supported by the Foundation. Led by Professor Geoff Raisman at University College London, the project aims to repair the spinal cord using olfactory ensheathing stem cells.

Gordon RamsayGordon said: “Henry is very important to Tana and me, which is why I have chosen to run the LA Marathon in support of the UK Stem Cell Foundation.”

Henry is delighted to have Gordon’s support. He said: “Since leaving school Gordon and I have kept in touch and I have been keeping him updated with what I have been doing. Whenever I have asked for auction prizes for charity events, he has been more than willing to offer plenty of great prizes that have raised a lot of money. I know Gordon runs a lot of marathons for many great causes so I thought I would ask, thinking it was a bit of a long shot. However he agreed to run on behalf of the UK Stem Cell Foundation almost straight away, maybe it was because he knew how important this charity was to me”.
